Getting family or mommy and me photos is a great way to capture everyone as they are in this moment, but it starts to feel overwhelming when you have to plan what everyone is going to wear, where they are going to get taken, and all those small details. Well, here is a few tips to make family photos feel less overwhelming.

What should we wear?  Pick 2 colors for everyone to wear.  It does not have to be exactly the same shade or even be the main color just as long as everyone has these two colors the outfits will look cohesive. Make sure the colors either compliment or stand out from the background, you do NOT want to blend in.

Example: If you want photos with a lot of trees and grass do not wear green, try neutrals, or blues.

What if my kid does not like to sit still?    It is not your job to worry about that. A part of the job is seeing our clients for who they are and making beautiful photos from that because you can feel when something is not authentic. For me family photos are about showcasing the family as they are now,  because none of us will be this age  again or in this moment ever again. So a good photographer will not be upset that your kids want to run or jump and play, they will make it work for them.

Example: Using prompts that feel like games, because genuine smiles are always the goal.

How do I pick a location?    Again, it's not your job to find the location. I always ask my clients what the vibe they want is, or to make a Pinterest board and send it to me. Part of hiring a professional is that we should be knowledgable about good locations.
